About Us

PEDMEDE

The Panhellenic Association of Engineers Contractors of Public Works (PEDMEDE), established in 1935, represents the Greek construction sector, encompassing contractors and technical companies classified from grade A1 to grade 7 by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. Based in Athens, it operates 15 regional departments across Greece and a separate section for construction companies. PEDMEDE’s mission is to promote and safeguard its members’ interests at national and regional levels, collaborating with public authorities, government representatives, and stakeholders to shape policies, initiatives, and the legislative framework for the construction sector.

PEDMEDE is the sole Greek construction association represented at the European level, being a statutory member of FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation), EIC (European International Contractors), and EDA (European Demolition Association), holding key steering committee roles. Its current President, Mr. Konstantinos Gkoliopoulos, serves as FIEC Vice-President (2024–2026) and President of the European Construction Forum (Construction 2050 initiative).

PEDMEDE focuses on knowledge transfer, training in BIM, digitalization, circular economy, and energy efficiency, while ensuring the adoption of EU policies like the Green Deal and Renovation Wave. It actively participates in EU projects, providing feedback from the Greek construction labor market, and promoting sustainable development, innovation, and best practices across the sector.

FIEC

Created in 1905, FIEC (European Construction Industry Federation) represents construction enterprises of all sizes and specialties through its 32 national member federations across 27 European countries, including 24 EU members, Norway, Switzerland, and Ukraine. Its membership ranges from craftsmen and SMEs to large international firms operating as main or subcontractors. FIEC is the officially recognized Social Partner representing employers in the European Sectoral Social Dialogue “Construction.”

FIEC’s mission is to represent and promote the European construction industry’s interests to EU institutions while raising awareness among policymakers and the public. It supports sustainable development in the sector, facilitating the green transition and contributing to the EU Green Deal goals. The federation also advocates for a fair public procurement system that ensures a level playing field for all EU construction companies, while giving special attention to the needs of SMEs. Furthermore, FIEC promotes the development of sustainable transport and energy infrastructure to support the EU’s long-term growth.

In its role as Social Partner, FIEC works with the European Federation of Building and Wood Workers (EFBWW) to improve working conditions, health, safety, and training in the construction sector. It fosters innovation by encouraging the adoption of new technologies, innovative processes, and digitalization. Additionally, FIEC facilitates cooperation and the exchange of best practices among its members and other stakeholders, including architects, engineers, and manufacturers, to strengthen the construction industry’s ecosystem.
